Day 4: pursuit

Hello again, here is what happened today. We woke up extra early for warmup this morning because the race was earlier this morning that is until it was delayed an hour! The race was supposed to start at 10 but instead started at 11 because of the weather. The delay wasn't too bad because it gave us all more time to focus and get ready to race. I'm sure most of you know but for those of you who don't the start times are based off of our finish times from yesterday. The races started fairly quickly with a four lane system where each competitor would start five seconds after the person beside them went. The trails today were very fast, with good snow and glide. Today everyone but Nick skied the 1.5km orange loop five times with four shooting bouts whereas Nick skied  five loops of the 2.5km green loop! Like yesterday the races were over fairly fast which was a good thing because it was pretty chilly out there! Once the morning races were over there were awards outside, once they announced all of the category winners there were prizes for whoever shot clean ( when you shoot all 5 targets in one bout ) these winners include Sarah Duncan, Nick Dumontier and myself! I personally am very proud of my results for today and on the behalf of all our athletes I would like to thank all of  the volunteers, parents and coaches for all of their time, encouragement and most of the time their tolerance we would like you to know just how much we appreciate everything you do for us and that none of this could be possible without you! Once again here's the link for the Dropbox I'll add more photos once I've sorted them out so watch your emails in the next week! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ncqfibleuo81065/AH3CfRy7by

Day 3: sprint

Sorry I didn't post last night we were pretty busy! So here's a summary of yesterday's events. We started the morning with a run and dynamic warmup to wake us all up someone told me it was -31 outside when it's was really only -20 so I bundled in almost all of my clothes to go outside, I swear I looked just like the Michelin man! After our warmup we headed back to our rooms to dry fire and then had breakfast. Once everyone was fed we left for Otway ( the hill ) and were greeted by Mr.PG a big blowup man that looked like it was made of wood! It was too cold to run the race at the set time so they delayed it half an hour. Zero started at 9:30 and the race started at 10:30 with the senior boys. The trails were groomed beautifully and were very wide which was great with some many racers! We all skied a 6km sprint with three loops of the incredibly hilly red loop except Nick who had a 10km sprint ( which isn't much of a sprint ) and did three loops of the blue. There is no wind here so that made the shooting a lot easier! If you'd like to access the results you can find them at the biathlon bc website on the first page! Everyone from our groups races were done by noon so we had lunch there and were out by around 1:15. When we came back we had some downtime before dinner so Sarah and I went to the label outlet store right by the hotel and scored a few deals, we also made a stop at dollarama which lead to an impulse buy of neon poster paper and stick on rhinestones so we made an amazing team poster that took forever to make! After lots of free time we went out to Boston Pizza for dinner with the team, when we were finished there we went to the awards night at civic plaza, we were a little late but we made it for a few more medals to be handed out unfortunately not to any of us. We were invited to " stay and mingle" but after eating out we all just wanted to go back to the hotel and sleep! I guess this happened after I posted the blog but on training day after we came back to the hotel I went to find something to eat in the fridge so I looked in the freezer too, I pulled out a brown package that I thought was an ice pack...until I read it and saw that said steak on it! It was so gross so we called the front desk and asked them to take it out which they did, it was really gross though! But is was a good day other wise! Day 2: training

This morning started off with a lovely sleep in and then a great breakfast! After breakfast Sarah and I went grocery shopping, everything we need is super close to the hotel and very convenient! The plan for today was to be on range and be sighting in at 1 which worked out fairly well, we've rented two vans for transportation from the hotel to the hill. The facility is gorgeous with a brand new range which is almost the same as Canmores! The trails are extremely hilly, believe it or not hilly-er ( if that's a real word? ) than Canmore. Today the trails were especially icy but incredibly fast! There were a fair number of clubs which was great to see, there's even some members of the biathlon Yukon team here,it's really nice to see so many people at an event like this, it also gives us the athletes a chance to source out who our biggest competition will be leading up to the Canada Games. It also gives the parents and board members some ideas for next years Westerns that will be held at Falcon Lake. We've got a fairly large wax room as well which is very handy. Since we all race tomorrow today wasn't a big day for volume or any crazy intensity. After sight in we did a small mock pursuit race, it was a bit crowded but a good pre cursor for the actual race. Tonight we've got a big lasagna dinner planned and a team meeting later in the evening. Tomorrow the races start at 10:00am and finish right around noon, so we've got a fair bit of down time so we may do some more grocery shopping and explore the town a bit. It's not incredibly mountainous but there's amazing hills covered in trees and the country is beautiful. After the races tomorrow there's an awards banquet in the evening and everyone's pretty excited. So I got the pictures to load but they won't get to the right size ( I'm not exactly tech savvy ) so I'm thinking of making a Dropbox and posting the link, so watch your emails and the blog for more details!

Thanks for reading, Amelia

Day 1

Hello from Prince George B.C everyone! We started our morning at 4:00 am in Winnipeg and boarded at 6:30 and departed at 7:00. The flight went smoothly without any hitches with one stop in Vancouver. We arrived at the PG airport at around 9:45am. We are staying at a cute motel called Grama's Inn that conveniently shares a parking lot with a Wendy's;) There's not much to say for today, The Mitchell's and I arrived early this morning and lazed about the whole day trying to catch up on some sleep! The weather when we arrived was a lovely -13 and sunny with no wind! Our rental car driver told us that we came on the coldest weekend this winter... We said its nothing compared to Winnipeg! The Fascione's, Heather ( the Red Lake coach ) and Matt are coming in later tonight. Tomorrow we have our official training day at the hill at 12:30, we are all very excited to see the brand new range! Until I can figure out a way to upload pictures this is the best we've got!

Until tomorrow, Amelia
